Fruitful meeting earlier in the week with a delegation from the Bandari Maritime Academy, State Department for Maritime & Shipping Affairs and the City of Glasgow College at our headquarters in Mombasa, Kenya.
The team comprised Prof Kinandu Muragu, chair of Bandari Maritime Academy Board; Francis Muraya, Human Resource Management & Development at the state Department for Maritime & Shipping Affairs; Abdallah Hatimy, Special Advisor at the State Department for Maritime & Shipping Affairs; Christopher Blair, Associate Director Maritime Projects at City of Glasgow College; Ghayoor Abbas, Associate Dean – Commercial Engineering at City of Glasgow College and John Paterson, chair of Scottish Africa Business Association
Discussions were mainly focused around bridging the huge shortage of qualified local maritime professionals in Kenya and how SECO can further assist the Kenyan government in meeting the needs of the emerging blue economy sector as a center of excellence by offering quality hands-on maritime training to the graduates that have passed through the Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA).
